Botox Versus Fillers: What’s The Difference?
Botox and Dermal Fillers are cosmetic products that have different applications but are considered to be complementary products when it comes to treating the effects of skin conditions such as wrinkles and fine lines. Let’s start by looking at what happens to skin. Over time, our skin loses some of its natural elasticity. The skin may form wrinkles, sags or droops in places we don’t want it to happen. Lips appear less full, cheeks are gaunter, and jawlines may sag. These visible signs of aging become more apparent as time passes.
Botox Cosmetic Injections
Wrinkles themselves are generally formed by muscle activity. Botox is a purified protein that helps to relax facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Botox cosmetic injections target dynamic wrinkles – the wrinkles that appear as you form facial expressions like smiling or frowning.
When Botox is injected into the affected area, the results start to show within a couple of days and generally look their best within a week and a half, to two weeks. The results last around four months.
A Botox injection treatment takes in the region of 15 minutes to complete and its application is simple. Following treatment, you can except very little downtime. Botox Cosmetic treatment gives a sustained, refreshed appearance to rejuvenate the face.
Cosmetic Filler Injections
In contrast, cosmetic fillers target static wrinkles – lines and folds that are present when we’re not forming facial expression or our face is at rest. Static wrinkles include crow’s feet. Dermal Fillers work to “fill in” the areas in between wrinkles and folds in the skin. The wrinkles are still technically “there” but now just harder to see. Fillers work to plump up the affected areas and restore volume to your face and lips.
Cosmetic Filler injections are also used to enhance the face, cheeks, jawline, and lips. Popular Filler Injections include collagen, polylactic acid, and calcium hydroxyl apatite. Our clinic uses hyaluronic acid injections from the Juvéderm® Family of Fillers from Allergan. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally occurring in the human body, to restore volume to the face. It is known to hold up to 1000x its weight in water.
A Filler treatment is temporary, and the effects typically last between 9 to12 months, or depending on our premium product, the duration can last from 18 to 24 months. A Filler application is a quick process with instant, natural-looking results.
