Introducing The Dermaroller: Collagen Induced Therapy
Collagen Induced Therapy (CIT), or skin micro-needling, is a popular treatment making headlines with many celebrity supporters. CIT has a number of benefits, including reducing wrinkles, tightening and toning skin, treating scars and stretch marks, thickening the dermis and improving the texture of the skin. We have recently added this treatment to our list of services with the Health Canada-approved Dermaroller, one of the most popular CIT devices on the market.
How It Works
The Dermaroller is a device designed to carefully pierce the skin, forcing it to repair itself with the production of collagen and new skin cells. As the device is rolled over the skin, super-fine, medical-grade needles penetrate the dermis, which in turn rapidly closes up to repair itself.
To prevent any discomfort, the patient is put under a local or topical anesthetic for the procedure. There is no lasting skin damage, as these needles are atraumatic (non-traumatic). After the treatment, you will be left with smoother, healthier, clearer, younger-looking skin. Results from the Dermaroller treatment generally last between 5 to 10 years, with only 3 to 6 treatments!
Reduce Wrinkles, Tighten and Tone Skin and Improve Skin Texture
The Dermaroller is carefully passed over the skin, penetrating microscopic ultra-fine needles deep into the dermis of the skin, stimulating the body’s own production of new collagen. This thickens the dermis of the skin and thus improves the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, mouth and cheeks.
Treat Acne Scars and Stretch Marks
By perforating the skin, the Dermaroller’s ultra-fine needles penetrate scar tissue causing new fibroblasts and capillaries to travel to the surface. This causes new skin tissue to form over the areas previously occupied by scarring. Patients can expect significant improvement in the appearance of stretch marks and acne scars.
Improved Skin with Quick Healing
Though the Dermaroller is a very minimally invasive treatment, skin will appear pink and may have areas of redness and possible bruising immediately following the procedure. Swelling is normal for the first few days following Collagen Induced Therapy, lasting up to ten days. Patients will begin to see results in the month following the procedure, however full effects may not be appreciated for up to 90 days, or three months. If you are looking to speed healing, we recommend adding Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to your treatment.
